The killer of San Antonio Police Officer Robert Deckard is going away forever, News Radio 200 WOAI reports.
Shaun Puente, 36, was sentenced today to life without the possibility of parole by a judge in Atascosa County after the jury was unable to decide between life and the death penalty.
The officers family, in a statement released by the SAPD said it feels that justice was served.
Punte, who had been burglarizing and robbing businesses on the south side, started firing at Officer Deckard and other officers who were chasing him down I-37 in December of 2012.
The officer was shot in the head and died at the hospital.
Puente was charged with capital murder.
His girlfriend who was allegedly driving the getaway car, is awaiting trial.
