Gun Found in Car in NBHS Parking Lot After Threats Made by Student

New Braunfels Police today found a handgun in the glove compartment of a car driven by a 16 year old student that was parked in the parking lot of New Braunfels High School, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.

Police say the gun was discovered after classmates reported the 16 year old boy had made threats against a girl at the school over social media.

"We were able to pull the student from the class in cooperation with school administrators, and we were able to determine that the student did have a firearm," New Braunfels Police spokesman David Ferguson said.

The handgun, which was not loaded, was located and seized without incident.

Police stress that the gun was not taken into the school itself, and no theats were made against the school.  The threat was made on social media and not on school property.

New Braunfels ISD is also releasing a statement to parents about today's incident.

The student was arrested and charged with Terroristic Threat, a Class B misdemeanor.

Police praised the students at NBHS for moving quickly to report the threat.
