Firefighters and police officers went from apartment to apartment at a southeast side complex this morning, banging on doors and pulled out residents ahead of a fast moving fire early today, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.
The alarm came in about 5AM at the complex at Southcross and Pecan Valley.
Crews converged on the scene and managed to confine the flames. More than a dozen people were displaced and are being cared for by the Red Cross.
At one point, extra police had to be called in to restrain residents who wanted to go back inside to retrieve items from their apartments.
Arson investigators are looking into the cause, but it appears to have originated in the kitchen of a downstairs apartment. Nobody was hurt.
