Ground has been broken for new IKEA location

Fans of built-it-yourself furniture are cheering today's groundbreaking of the first IKEA location in the San Antonio area, 1200 WOAI news report.

"It's going to change the landscape of this whole I-35, 1604 area.  It’s going to be cool. It's going to be really cool!" Live Oak Mayor Mary Dennis tells Newsradio 1200 WOAI.

The Swedish furniture chain that also churns out Swedish meatballs has been planning for two years to start construction of their first showroom on the northeast side.  Chuck Coker, who runs Real Estate for IKEA, says this is the perfect spot.

"We prioritize locations that are highly visible and easily accessible.  That's exactly what we found in the city of Live Oak."

When the store opens in the spring of 2019, it will be the chain's fifth location in Texas.
