VIA Opens New Shelters to Encourage Zoo Visitors to Take the Bus

Spring Break is the busiest week of the entire year for the San Antonio Zoo, especially with the gorgeous weather we're having this week, and VIA Metropolitan Transit says there are new ways to take the bus to the zoo, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.

One of the biggest complaints of zoo goers is a lack of parking, and VIA President Jeff Arndt says the new zoo-themed bus stops are just the solution.

"Comfortable covered seating, sidewalk and ADA improvements to assist passengers as they travel safely and make connections more smoothly," Arndt said.

VIA today dedicated three new bus shelters in the zoo area, including one at the Will Smith Zoo School on Tuleta Ave west of the Zoo.

Arndt says the new 'nex-gen' shelters include the amenities that passengers have indicated they want in a bus shelter, including covered seating to protect them from the rain and the summer sun.
