Three accused killers, including the man who is charged in the November murder of a three year old boy who was killed when his family's car was shot at on the city's southwest side, are back in the Bexar County Jail following an escape, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.
"They were captured after all of forty minutes," Sheriff Javier Salazar said.
He says the escape happened with the three men were in an upper level recreation yard at the jail."It was a pretty miraculous feat that they pulled off," the Sheriff said. "They were able to cut a hole in some mesh that was twenty feet up in a recreation area. And the suspect made their way out using some bedsheets."
He says they were picked up in front of the jail by an ex girlfriend of one of the escapees, and after she dropped them off at a Sonic restaurant just north of Blanco and Hildebrand, she was the person who called police.
"We developed some information that the suspects may be at a restaurant near Blanco and Hildebrand. We went to that location, and all three suspects were taken into custody successfully."
The three are charged with murder, and one is charged with three murders.
Salazar says the Sheriff's Department 'has some work to do,' figure out how the killers got out of jail, and how to prevent the incident from happening again.
The escapees were captured by deputies, San Antonio Police, and DPS Troopers, as well as officers from the Lone Star Fugitive Task Force.
