Trump Endorses Incumbent Texas Statewide Republicans

President Trump has tweeted endorsements of all eight top statewide Republicans who are up for re-election in next week's Republican primary, including Republicans who have clashed with him in the past, and Republicans who are facing tough renomination campaigns, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.

"I want to encourage all of my many Texas friends to vote in the primary  for Governor Greg Abbott, Senator Ted Cruz, Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick, and  Attorney General Ken Paxton. They are helping me to Make America Great  Again! Vote early or on March 6th," the President tweeted.

Cruz, of course, led the 'Anti-Trumper' charge at the 2016 Republican convention and was late to endorse the eventual nominee.

Trump went on to support other statewide Republicans.

"Texas LC George P. Bush backed me when it wasn’t the politically correct  thing to do, and I back him now. Also, AC Sid Miller has been with me  from the beginning, he is “Trump’s Man in Texas.” Also support  Comptroller Glenn Hegar, and Railroad Commissioner Christi Craddick."

Bush, of course, is the son of the man Trump referred to as 'Low Energy Jeb' during the 2016 campaign.  Bush and Miller are in tough re-election campaigns, although most of the people Trump endorsed have no Republican primary opposition.

SMU Political Analyst Cal Jillson says support for Trump is growing among Texas Republicans, so the endorsements may make a real difference.

"Those numbers are up a little bit from what they were in 2016, because Texas Republicans realize that the Trump Administration's success is their success,a nd its failure is their failure," Jillson said.
