SAISD Offers Compromise Over Planned School Walkouts

The San Antonio ISD today proposed a compromise to students on the issue of the planned high school walkouts to protest school violence, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.

The district says principals are meeting with student groups at all SAISD high schools to try to plan a 'structured, peaceful assembly at a designated location on campus.

The district says it understands the desire of students to participate in an event in solidarity with the students at Stoneman Douglas High School in Florida.

But the district says it needs to 'maintain a safe and orderly learning environment for all,' and because of that, 'any walkout off campus would be an unexcused absence.'

The district says it will also offer opportunities for all students to discuss ideas for improving school safety.
