San Antonio Police, along with the FBI and the Houston Police Department announced today they have broken up a major ATM theft ring, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.
"San Antonio Police robbery task force has been investigating a highly organized gang of ATM thieves targeting branches across the state," Chief William McManus said. "This week they made the mistake of coming to San Antonio and trying it here."
He says the suspects went to a bank on DeZavala Rd, assaulted an ATM technician, and made off with the money.
"SAPD executed the take down plan after they were able to catch up with these folks, and they took them into custody immediately on the north end of the city."
McManus says three men, 44, 24, and 18, were arrested.
"A large amount of cash was recovered from the vehicle."
McManus says the FBI will prosecute the case, and federal charges will be filed.
