Two Overnight Fires Displace Residents

Two fires overnight displaced two families, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.

The first happened on the south side, in the 900 block of Bernard, which is near Roosevelt and Loop 410.

Flames were shooting out of windows at the back of the one story home when firefighters got there.The family got out safely but the family dog died in the fire.

The house was totally destroyed, and arson investigators are on the scene trying to determine the cause.  The family is staying with neighbors.

About an hour later a fire alarm came in from the 1300 block of Ervin, which is southeast of Ft. Sam Houston on the East side.

One person inside the house got out safely, and the Red Cross is working to try to find a place for that person to stay.

The  fire began with a short in a fuse box.  Damage to the house is extensive.
