Universal City Man Sentenced for Threatening to Kill Sen. Cruz

A 59 year old Universal City man is going to prison for threatening to kill Senator Ted Cruz and his entire family, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.

Federal prosecutors say James Amos Headley was so angry about something he heard Cruz say on a TV news program that he called his office and left a massage on the voice mail threatening to murder Cruz, his wife Heidi, and their two young children.

Headley told agents he was 'upset' with Cruz's position in 'different policies' and decided to call and 'leave a message demonstrating his intent to impede and intimidate' the Senator.

Under the terms of his sentence, the time Headley has already spent in jail since his arrest last July will be counted in his sentence.

U.S. District Judge Xavier Rodriguez sentenced Headley to six months behind bars, followed by six months home confinement.

After that, he will have to spend three years on supervises release.
