Supreme Court Justice Sotomayor Delivers Inspirational Speech at UTSA

More than one thousand UTSA students and staffers gathered today to hear what many described as am 'inspirational' address by U.S. Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.

"Success is not fair, life is not fair, platitudes, right, you've all heard them," she said.  "They are true."

Sotomayor mainly dished out advice based on her life story, which she related in her 2013 autobiography.  Reporters were told that Sotomayor would not answer any questions about Supreme Court business or pending cases.

"Yes, I know life is hard," she said of her upbringing.  "I lived that hardness in my stomach every single day.  But it is worth the effort."

She told students who might have dreams of sitting on the high court that the chances are greater that they will be struck by lightning than sit on the Supreme Court, but she said you don't have to be a judge to make a difference.

"You just have to take a step every day to be successful, a step that betters you from where you started."
