Austin is a Semi-Finalists for Big Amazon 'Second Headquarters'

Austin is one of the cities chosen to make the short list of locations for the highly sought after 'second headquarters' for e-commerce giant Amazon.com, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.

Dallas is also on the list of 20 cities still to be considered for the headquarters, which will Amazon says will mean the creation of tens of thousands of new jobs.

Other cities on the short list include Nashville, Washington DC, Los Angeles, Pittsburgh, and Chicago.

San Antonio famously pulled out of the running for what is called HQ2, after complaining about the incentives the e-commerce firm is likely to demand, and the cost of those incentives to the taxpayers.

"Giving away the farm is not our style," said Mayor Nirenberg and County Judge Wolff in a statement.

The Greater Austin Chamber of Commerce said in a statement it is 'looking forward to presenting the best of what our region has to offer, and how we can partner with Amazon.'
