San Antonio based Merge VR is among the virtual and augmented reality companies which are making a splash at the Consumer Electronics Show which opens today in Las Vegas, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.
Co-founder Andrew Trickett says the company is displaying a new toy gun with a smartphone dock. He says you can play games by looking on the phone's screen while moving around in the real world.
He says you can zap monsters who are walking around your home, and come up with other games, similar to Pokemon Go.
"While virtual reality is going to be big, augmented reality is going to be bigger, and all the prognostications show that as well," Trickett said from Las Vegas.
He says players can place their phone in the dock, and use the screen as a heads-up display for games. Instead of using a controller or joystick, players will have to physically move out of the way.
"We love virtual reality, but we think augmented reality is going to be the bigger play," he said. "We think it has a far more universal appeal."
