The Tobin Center, which on Thursday began offering refunds on future concerts, today resumed selling tickets for the January 12 performance of Beethoven's Eroica, after the Symphony board reversed course and decided to continue the 2017-2018 season past this weekend, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.
"I have been instructed to announce that the season is going forward," musical director Sebastian Lang-Lessing told the crowd before Friday night's Tricentennial concert.
Lang-Lessing stressed that the financial challenges that led the Symphony board just last week to cancel the season have not abated.. The symphony did not indicate if new money has been found, or whether the entire current season can be salvaged.
A new entity that was created to end the symphony's thirty year long financial crisis collapsed last week amid concerns over the orchestra's pension debt, and contract issues with the musicians remain unresolved.
