Five people were killed early today in a one vehicle accident in South Texas, the DPS tells News Radio 1200 WOAI.
An SUV which was carrying nine people and hauling a U-Hall trailer, was southbound on US 77 near Sinton, which is north of Corpus Christi, about 3AM when the driver apparently fell asleep at the wheel.
The vehicle careened off an overpass, falling onto the road below and bursting into flames.
The DPS says five of the nine people in the vehicle were killed. The other four suffered injuries described as 'non life threatening' and are hosptialized.
The DPS doesn't yet have the age and gender breakdowns of the victims, but say the vehicle was traveling from Georgia to the Rio Grande Valley.
