Sculley Opens 10th Rock and Roll Marathon Weekend

Some 2600 runners will lace up the tennies on Sunday to participate in the 10th annual San Antonio Rock and Roll Marathon, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.

City Manager Sheryl Sculley today officially opened the Health and Wellness Fair, which is part of marathon weekend. She says about 20,000 of those runners will be from out of town, which means a boost for both tourism, and economic development.

"The runners are those who also work in businesses and bring family members, and we know why will come back to San Antonio," she said. The events are all sponsored this year by Humana.

Sculley today marked the 10th anniversary of the Rock and Roll Marathon by honoring the people who have run in every race.

"230 legacy runners will compete this year for the tenth time in the San Antonio rock and roll Marathon, and I am one of those, I have run every year,"she said to cheers from the runners.

Drivers may not be cheering.  Starting Saturday about 7:30 tomorrow morning until about 11, and then for most of the day on Sunday, dozens of streets downtown, in the Pearl Area, along Broadway, and south to Southtown will be closed for Marathon related events.
