Two Dead in North Side SWAT Standoff

A tragic end to a SWAT standoff on the city's north side today, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.

Police Chief Bill McManus says a man called 9-1-1 and told the operator bluntly that he planned to kill his wife and then kill himself.  By the time officers arrived at the home on Possum Tree, which is an upscale area off Jones-Maltsburger, officers heard a shot, and entered to find both the man and the woman dead.

"There was divorce, there was conversation about divorce," McManus said.

He said the couple had 'school age' children, but they were both at school at the time.  Nobody else was hurt.

"We had no sign in the past that this was imminent, other than the phone call this morning," the chief said.

The case is being handled as a murder-suicide.
