An 81 year old man who was trying to cross an east side street in his wheelchair is in critical condition after he was run down ear;y Sunday by a hit and run driver, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.
The man was trying to cross Rigsby Ave. near the Bonair Street corner about midnight in his wheelchair, away from a marked crosswalk and in an area which is not well lighted.
Police say there were no reflectors or anything to notify a passing car of the wheelchair.
The driver smashed into the elderly man's wheelchair and then sped away down Rigsby.
The victim was rushed to the hospital with multiple injuries. Police say when he is captured, the driver will face charges.
