Residents Evacuate Due to Fire at Northeast Side Apartments

Fire units scrambled overnight as a major fire broke out at a northeast side apartment complex, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.

14 fire companies answered the alarm at the Kenton Village Apartments in the 14000 block of Nacogdoches Road.

When they arrived, they found smoke pouring out of one building at the apartments, and dozens of residents standing in the parking lot.

It took crews about a half hour to bring the fire under control.  It was traced to a wall heater in a first floor apartment and arson is not suspected.

Nobody was hurt, but some residents were unable to return to their apartments due to smoke and water damage.
