A 15 year old boy was shot and killed overnight outside a Whataburger in what is rapidly becoming one of most dangerous parts of Bexar County, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.
Deputies were called to the restaurant at the corner of FM 78 and Walzem Road on a report of gunfire.
When they arrived, investigators said they found the victim dead from gunshot wounds, and were told that multiple shots were fired behind the Whataburger.
"There were a couple of individuals that were involved in this incident," an investigator on the scene told 1200 WOAI news. "One individual decided to take out a rifle and shoot the victim multiple times."
Investigators say the shooting stemmed from an argument that took place earlier in the evening, and the victim and his family actually went to the Whataburger to try to get away from the dispute.
"The victim was at a funeral, at a viewing, and from what the people here say, there was a dispute over there, and then they came over here, and that's when they started fighting."
Several other customers, including the victim's family, were at the Whataburger at the time, but nobody else was hurt.
Detectives are also trying to determine whether this shooting may have been connected to the murder of a teenager in Converse, not far away, on Sunday.
The Walzem Road/FM 78 area has become one of the epicenters for the recent spike in violence which has hit the San Antonio and Bexar County area in the last two years.
Many of the crimes have been retaliation for previous incidents, and officials say some of the criminal actions have resulted from posts on social media.
