15 Year Old Reagan H.S. Girl Donates Blankets to Kids in Emergency Shelter

Santa Claus came early today to the troubled kids at the Roy Maas Youth Alternatives, in the form of a 15 year old Reagan High School Student, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.

Sam Sanchez and her friends donated 100 fleece blankets and pajamas for the children who live at The Bridge, which is the emergency shelter for kids who are abused, neglected, and homeless.

Sam says she began her charity work when she was nine.

"I was in fourth grade and we had a service project to do blankets for kids with cancer," she said.  "So I thought it would be a good idea to implement that as a program for kids who are abused or homeless or at risk for homelessness."

Sam started her charity, Sam's Covers, and she is CEO of the registered charity. Many of the blankets and pajamas were made by Sam and her friends.

"Its just for kids to know that there are people out there who care for them," she said.  "Its more than just a blanket for them.  It's something they know is their's and can keep forever."
