Airport Short Term Parking Garage ReOpens

Just in time for the busiest travel weeks of the year, the Short Term Parking garage at the San Antonio International Airport is again open for business, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.

The parking garage, which has been closed for two years as it is renovated into an on site rental car pickup location, officially opened over the weekend, as waves of passengers descended on the airport.

"We are excited to open this new facility prior to the busiest travel time of the year," City Aviation Director Lt. Gen. Russ Handy (USAF, Ret) said.  "This makes it easier for travelers to navigate the airport and it offers customers an enhanced and more enjoyable traveling experience."

The closure of the Short Term Parking location has forced many passengers to rely on satellite lots which require a shuttle bus trip to get to the terminal.

The Short Term garage includes a 15 minute 'park for free' feature, allowing customers to park and drop off or pick up passengers, as well as a 'guaranteed parking program' for frequent fliers.

The newly renovated garage will also house a desk where passengers can pick up and drop off rental cars right in front of the terminals.  That will eliminate the need for a shuttle bus ride a mile or more off the airport grounds to pick up a rental car, and will also lead to a lot less traffic congestion in front of the terminals.
