Campos Introduced as New UTSA Athletic Director

Lisa Campos, who led very successful college athletic programs at Northern Arizona University, this afternoon was introduced to the campus of UTSA as its new Athletic Director, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.

"My family and I are so excited to join the Roadrunner family and the San Antonio community," said Campos, who received her PhD at UT El Paso.  "UTSA is a remarkable institution and I look forard to working with President Taylor Eighmy."

Campos succeeds the legendary Lynn Hickey, who retired earlier this year after leading UTSA to major sports successes, and created the UTSA football team.  Hickey was also a national leader in college sports.

Campos says in order to build on that success, the key is facilities, and she promised she will be in the community looking for partnerships.

"We are going to need significant resources and commitment from the community," she said.  "I intend to go out there and address the needs that we have."

She will attend the Roadrunner football game tomorrow, and plans meetings with community leaders, including Red McCombs, starting on Monday.

"We have already started talking about facilities, because that is an area that we need to address, and start putting a plan together and secure those resources."UTSA competes in 17 sports at the NCAA Division 1 level.

Aignmy joked that he would love to see some Nobel Prize winners come from UTSA, but for now he will settle for conference championships.
