Two Homes Were Destroyed by Fire Overnight

Two homes were destroyed in two separate fires on opposite sides of the city overnight, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.

One home was occupied by relatives of a man who was wounded in the Sutherland Springs shooting.

The first fire broke out at a home on Altitude Street on the west side, which is near Loop 410 and Highway 90.When firefighters arrived, they found a vacant home fully engulfed in flames.

Nobody was inside, and there were no injuries, but the home was a total loss.

Arson investigators are trying to determine a cause, but firefighters have dealt with a series of fires in vacant homes recently which were caused by homeless squatters and drug users staying inside the homes, and starting fires to keep warm.

About 3AM Wednesday, two people managed to escape their burning home on the city's east side with just the clothes on their backs.

Firefighters say smoke and flames were leaping out of the house in the 1200 block of Colzona Rd, which is near Loop 410 and I-10.

The two residents were not hurt, but the home was a total loss, and the residents lost all their possessions.  The two residents are relatives of a man who remains hospitalized following the massacre in Sutherland Springs Nov. 5.

Arson investigators are on the scene of this fire as well.
