Local Serial Child Rapist Going Away for Good

A serial child rapist will likely be spending the rest of his life locked up.Jesus Medrano was sentenced to 30 years in federal prison, this week, for the federal crime of the production of child pornography, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.

"I apologize for what I did," he told the judge.  "I know now that it's wrong."

Medrano, 40, was sexually assaulting either three or four little girls over a four year time span.  One of the victims, who was raped between the ages of six and ten, also had naked pictures taken of her.  That's where the kiddie porn charges come in.

In court, Assistant U.S. Attorney Tracy Thompson told the judge that the victim will likely need counseling the rest of her life.

"The family has had a really hard time dealing with this," she said.   "It took a lot to get this child to go to counseling."

Lawyers for Medrano said that he suffers from bipolar disorder, and is now receiving medication.

But Medrano's legal problems are far from over.  He also faces charges in state court for indecency with a child and the aggravated sexual assault of a child.

With those charges stacked on top of the federal prison time, its unlikely Medrano will ever be a free man.

But if he does live long enough to be released from prison, he'll spend the rest of his life on probation and must register as a sex offender.
