USAA has announced plans to begin the move of some 400 employees from the corporate offices on Fredericksburg Road to downtown, with the move beginning next year, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.
USAA says the workers, who have yet to be determined, will be housed on four floors of One Riverwalk Center, the 18 story officer tower on North St. Mary's, just west of the Tobin Center, which USAA purchased in 2013
.USAA spokesman Matthew Hartwig says reconstruction on the four floors will begin before the end of 2017.
Earlier this year, USAA moved some 100 tech and 'innovation' jobs to the 19th floor of the building, so they can be closer the booming tech industry, which is centered largely at and around Geekdom, which is on Houston Street, and the Pearl Complex on Broadway.
This comes as some 1500 USAA employees are moving to two newly constructed office buldings at I-10 and Loop 1604, and near The Shops at La Cantera.
Hartwig says the move will open up more space at the main USA building 'to support USAA's ongoing growth strategy.'
"USAA is seeking to hire talented people from across the country," Hartwig said. "Many with technical skills important to developing the tools and services our members will need."
USAA currently employs roughly 18,000 people in San Antonio, and 32,000 people worldwide. USAA is the largest private employer in San Antonio.
