Wounded Officer Speaks at Rifle Presentation

The San Antonio Police Officer who was critically wounded in the June shooting that killed his partner, Officer MIguel Moreno, spoke publicly for the first time today, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.

"After I was shot, I received a wealth of positive gratitude from the citizens of San Antonio," Officer Julio Cavazos said in an emotional news conference.  "I haven't been able to express my thanks to everybody, but I want to thank everybody for everything you've done for me."

Officer Cavazos received a specially made rifle from the Sons of Libert Gun Works in Officer Moreno's memory.

Sons of Liiberty co-owner MIchael Mihalski said there was no charge to Officer Cavazos because 'you've already paid in full.

Cavazos says this is the sort of public response that has moved him so much during his long hospitalization.

"Words can't begin to explain how thankful I am for all of the gifts that my daughter received on her birthday, and for all the geniuiely good people of San Antonio."
