SAPD SVU Detective Fired in 'Forgotten Cases' Scandal

A detective in the SAPD Special Victims Unit was fired today in the 'forgotten cases' scandal, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.

The firing was done by Chief Bill McManus with the support of City Manager Sheryl Sculley, who said Detective Kenneth Valdez was the detective cited last week in allowing nearly 140 complaints of sexual assault, domestic violence and human trafficking to go uninvestigated or improperly investigated over the past four years.

Officials say some of the cases are now unprosecutable due to Valdez' alleged misconduct.

Sculley says the City Attorney's office is investigation the SVU.

"There is simply no excuse for such improper behavior," Sculley said.

Two supervisors in the SVU have been transferred.
