One Dead, One Critical Following South Side Confrontation

Police say an argument between a woman's ex boyfriend and her new boyfriend led to gunfire near a popular south side overnight, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.

"In the midst of a football scrimmage and a lot of people in the parking lot we had a shooting and a stabbing," Police Chief William McManus said.  "The new boyfriend was being stabbed by the old boyfriend, and one of the new boyfriend's friends pulled a gun and started shooting the old boyfriend."

McManus said the shooting victim was pronounced dead at the scene.  He was shot multiple times. The other man is being treated at SAMMC and is in critical condition.  The woman was not involved in the fight and was not hurt.

McManus blamed the incident on 'high risk behavior.'"Its fortunate that none of the children here and nobody else got here.  This parking lot would have been packed with people had it been a few minutes later."
