NISD Tutor Arrested for Sexually Assaulting 11 Year Old Girl

A creepy case out of the Northside ISD, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.

Police say a 75 year old 'tutor and substitute teacher' in the district has been arrested on charges of sexually assaulting an 11 year old girl he was tutoring.

Police Sergeant Michael Davis says the way they found out about the case is also disturbing.

"A family had discovered a diary from an 11 year old child, and a family member read the diary and it had some information in there that indicated there was a sexual assault of a child," he said.

He says the information in the diary led them to Luis Lopez, 75, who had been employed by the NISD for three years.

"They went and talked to the school, and they were able to talk about this with the principal, and the principal called the police department," he said.

He said they developed information that Lopez had given gifts to the 11 year old, and they also found evidence in his home.

"We discovered him at a hotel a distance from his house," he said.  "He had a whole bunch of stuff with him, and it looked like he wasn't going to be coming home for a while."

Davis said he wants to investigate any other possible complaints against Lopez.  He is charged with sexual assault of a child.

Police didn't say what schools Lopez had been working in as a 'mentor and a substitute teacher.

'"This individual was able to gain the trust of the child," Davis said.
