While Fiesta may seem months away, the preparations are in full swing for Fiesta 2018. Tonight Miss Fiesta was named and the 2018 Official Fiesta poster reveal is set for Nov. 1 at The Witte Musuem.
Carla Juarez is a 21-year-old Texas native. At an early age, Carla struggled to learn in school due to a language barrier. Despite this, she worked hard to excel in the classroom and achieved the distinction of Salutatorian upon graduating high school. Currently, Carla is an Honors College senior studying Accounting at the University of Texas at San Antonio.
Carla has spent the past two years at UTSA working with student leaders and administrators to improve the university and increase student involvement. In doing so she has served as Student Body Secretary for the Student Government Association, Vice-President for the First to Go and Graduate organization, an Involvement Ambassador, and as a member of the University Center, University Assembly, and First Gen Councils. Carla’s future plans include pursuing a Master’s of Accountancy and staying connected to the San Antonio community by serving as an advocate for education.
Her community service project proposal is to educate young students in underperforming public schools in ways to become better students and includes a book drive to encourage reading at home, school presentations and community outreach events.
