Former Republican Congressman Fraicisco 'Quico' Canseco, who served a single term representing the 23rd District from 2011 to 2013, is running for Congress again, but in the heavily Democrat 20th District, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.
It'll be an uphill effort for Canseco. The 20th District, which was created for iconic Democrat Henry B. Gonzalez, is so overwhelmingly Democrat that incumbant Joaquin Castro hasn't even had a Republican opponent in the last two election cycles.
Canseco was defeated for re-election in 2012 in the 23rd District, which stretches from San Antonio's northwest side all the way to El Paso, by Democrat Pete Gallego. Gallego was defeated in 2014 by Republican Will Hurd, who defeated Gallego again in 2016 to keep the seat Republican.
Castro was first elected to Congress in 2012, when his brother Julian was San Antonio's mayor.
Castro mulled a run against Senator Ted Cruz in 2018, but decided to seek re-election to Congress, and he will be a formidable favorite to win re-election.
