A pickup truck was so badly mangled when it hit a telephone pole just north of downtown early Sunday that it took firefighters an hour to cut the driver out of the twisted wreckage, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.
The driver had no vital signs when he was removed from the truck.. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police say he had been driving 'far too fast' up McCullough near Cypress about 12:30AM when he missed a turn, jumped a curb, and smashed into the pole.
A woman who was in the pickup is hospitalized.
