The National Weather Service says an additional 2-4 inches of rain is possible over much of South Central Texas today, with localized flooding a strong possibility, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.
"A dissipated tropical storm from the Pacific combining with a slow-moving cold front and weak disturbance through mid-week will support heavy rainfall over multiple time periods through Thursday," the NWS said in its Wednesday morning advisory. "Given the rocky soil and previous rain in the expected highest rainfall total location, river and flash flooding is of particular concern."
Nine low water crossings are barricaded this morning, with more barricades expected to go up later today.
The NWS also warns of 'minor to moderate flooding with flood waters capable of causing rivers and tributaries to become swollen.'
"Flood waters may prompt several evacuations and road closures, especially in normally flood-prone areas," the NWS said.
Right now, the storms are not expected to move out of the area before Friday. This weekend should be sunny, mild, and with far less humidity, with highs in the low to mid 80s.
