Texas Governor Greg Abbott says Houston's mayor is using the cleanup situation after Hurricane Harvey to hold the state hostage. Abbott, Commissioner John Sharp and others held a press conference yesterday afternoon, saying tapping into the Rainy Day fund would have to be during the next session. A statement from Governor Abbott said Mayor Sylvester Turner was asking for certain payments that are 'unprecedented' in Texas history and raises concern the mayor is using this to raise taxes. A statement from the Houston mayor's office said Mayor Turner is asking Governor Abbott to do what other governors are doing after devastating hurricanes.
