'Pot Pilot' Flying Off to Federal Prison

A pilot who tried to land his Piper Comanche with $600,000 worth of hydroponic marijuana packed into his plane, will be flying off to federal prison for the next three years, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.

Wayne Douglas Brunet was sentenced to 37 months for 'possession with intent to distribute' a large quantity of marijuana.

In March, Brunet took off from Medford Oregon with his load of marijuana, stopped to refuel in Holbrook Arizona, and planned to land at the Bulverde airstrip, which is unmanned early in the morning.

But the feds were tracking him from takeoff, and when Brunet saw the Homeland Security officers on the runway, he did a touch and go and took off again.

Prosecutor Matthew Devlin says at that point, Brunet was running low on fuel, but the offices were also waiting for him when he tried to land at Lago Vista, near Austin, and finally he was forced to set down at the Airport in Llano.

Devlin says after a 'clumsy' attempt to dispose of the marijuana on the tarmac, Brunet was arrested.

He pleaded guilty to the charge.
