One Killed, One Wounded in South Side Shootout

A wild shootout on the city's south side this afternoon last left one man dead and another wounded, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.

Police Chief William McManus says it began at the corner of Pleasanton and West Vestal about 1:30PM when a car containing three men pulled up in front of a home, yelled for the homeowner by name, and then attacked him and started beating him up.

"The victim pulled a gun and started shooting," McManus said. "The suspects ran back to the vehicle, grabbed a gun, and shot back."

The victim was rushed to SAMMC in critical condition.  He was pronounced dead at the hospital.

"One of the suspects was also hit, based on the evidence at the scene, so we are looking for those individuals right now," McManus said.

He didn't know what prompted the altercation.  The vehicle containing the wounded assailant sped away.
