Tents Being Put Up In Port Arthur To Aide Harvey Victims

Port Arthur

Thousands of people displaced by  Hurricane Harvey in Port Arthur, Texas, are being moved into tents.   Emergency officials have put up some 250 tents in a parking lot.  Each  one can hold up to 14 people.  Officials say men and women are being put  in different tents as families are staying together in other tents.   City officials say they also plan to set up one big tent that can hold  250 people and put barriers inside to separate men and women.  Mayor  Derrick Freeman says he expects more evacuees from Dallas and Garland to  return to Port Arthur and stay in the tents.

Officials say the tents are  temporary shelters where people can stay for about 30 days, but that could be extended.  FEMA and county officials are working on a long-term  housing solution.
