Police say a man who was walking down the sidewalk along Perrin-Beitel Rd. just outside Loop 410 was killed early today when a car driven by a drunk driver jumped the curb and ran over him, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.
Unlike several recent cases where people were walking in the street or trying to cross the street and were hit by vehicles, police say this man, was minding his own business, walking on the sidewalk.
He was dead by the time help arrived.
The alleged drunk driver tried to speed away but that did not go well. He smashed into a VIA bus shelter and was immediately arrested.
Police say he will face DWI and felony intoxication manslaughter charges.
