Governor to Join Strait at Majestic Hurricane Relief Fundaiser

When George Strait takes the stage, tonight, at San Antonio's Majestic Theater, he'll be broadcast into homes around the world as part of Hand in Hand: A Benefit for Hurricane Relief, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.

"The different communities down there where I have friends and some family, you kind of feel helpless, so this was a way that I thought I could do some good and help those people, and see if we can't get everybody back on their feet again," Strait says.

Despite tickets for tonight's show going for as much as $1,000, it sold out quickly, with 100-percent of the profits going to groups involved in hurricane relief.

Celia Cole, who heads up Feeding Texas, says what they need right now is cold, hard cash.

"We can do so much more with monetary donations to leverage our relationships with the food industry to turn that dollar into so much more food than the food people can send," she tells Newsradio 1200 WOAI.

And she says, with cash, they can send the right donations to the right places, without worrying about shipping food across the state.

Tonight's broadcast, which starts at 7pm, features Oprah Winfrey, Dwayne Johnson and George Clooney.

In addition to Strait, other musical artists scheduled to appear include Beyoncé, Justin Bieber and Barbra Streisand.

And, in addition to San Antonio, the special will be filmed in New York City, Nashville and Los Angeles.

But for the lucky fans who scored a ticket to the Majestic, Strait says, it's a night you won’t forget.

"We've got Miranda Lambert, we've got Chris Stapleton, we've got Robert Earl Keen and Lyle Lovett, and so it’s going to be a good show."

The Hand In Hand National concert can be heard locally on our sister station 96.1 Now and following the telethon broadcast you can watch George's show from the Majestic in it's entirety on KJ97's Facebook Page Starting at 8PM Here
