Two men were hit by vehicles overnight when they tried to walk across darkened portions of major roadways away from marked crosswalks, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.
A man in his sixties was killed early today when he tried to run across a darkened section of San Pedro near Sahara about 1:30AM
Police say the man was hit by a blue pickup truck which failed to stop. Officers said the driver actually stopped, saw what he had done, and then sped away. When he is arrested...he will face felony charges of Failing to Stop and Render Aid--Death.
After three hours before, a 37 year old man was hit by a car when he tried to run across the 10000 block of Wurzbach Rd. He suffered multiple injuries. The driver stopped and was rendering aid when police got there.
Police and city officials are vexed about what to do about the spike in people who are hit or killed when attempted to walk across busy streets. Officers say in both cases overnight, there was a lighted and marked crosswalk within 100 yards of where the men were trying to cross.
