People in South Florida who haven't already evacuated ahead of Hurricane Irma are being told - it's too late! Millions of people have been told to evacuate ahead of Hurricane Irma, which expected to hit Florida Sunday morning as a Category 5 Storm. In an evening news conference, Governor Rick Scott told people to leave now. He also warned people to not get on the road after midnight due to deteriorating weather conditions. Resident's who haven't left, are being advised to head to local shelters before the storm hits. They're also being told to expect power outages and shortages of food, water and gas that could last for days. Florida is also in line for dramatic storm surges, as high as twelve feet possible is some places.
Hurricane Irma shifted west today, raising fears of people living on Florida's west coast. Winds over 100 miles-per-hour are forecast for Naples and Ft. Myers. Folks in Ft. Myers are filling sandbags and shopping for supplies to protect their homes. Some are staying in those homes while some are headed to shelters. Residents are being urged to listen for evacuation orders in their area. Governor Rick Scott says Irma is wider than the entire state, so while it may shift a bit east or west, it's going to impact everyone.
