Mayor Appoints Official LGBTQ Liaison

BRITAIN-POLITICS-GAY-MARRIAGE

Mayor Nirenberg has appointed the city’s first official liaison, to the city’s increasingly influential LGBTQ community, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.

As many as 80,000 people fit into that community, which was recently validated by the decision to paint a crosswalk in the ‘gay-borhood’ north of downtown, in the ‘rainbow’ colors of equality.

“Our entire city thrives when every resident has assess to the resouces they need to be successful,” Nirenberg said.  “Our commitment to governing with fairness and compassion includes service to the LGBTQ coimmunity.”

The liason, Juanny Torres, who is the Mayor’s Director of Community Engagement, will work closely with the newly established ‘Office of Equity’ and will also ‘facilitate the resolution of complaints under the city’s Non-Discrimination Ordinance, which was approved by City Council in 2014.

Designated liaisons are not uncommon at City Hall.  The City has appointed liaisons to network with various groups, from the military to small businesses, working with them on important matters before city government.
