The Tom Herman era of Texas football is starting on a low note. The 23rd-ranked Longhorns were upset 51-41, by the Maryland Terrapins in Austin on Saturday. Terps quarterback Tyrrell Pigrome threw for two touchdowns and ran for another as they built a 30-14 halftime lead. The Longhorns came within three points in the second half, but Maryland closed the door and pulled off the season-opening road win. Shane Buechele threw for 375 yards and accounted for three touchdowns for Texas.
Texas will try to rebound when they host San Jose State on September 9.
