More people than ever will visit San Antonio in 2018, and now they have a thoroughly modern way to find their way around...and more...News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.
County Judge Nelson Wolff, whose drive for technical innovation is obvious from his championing of the country's first all digital library and his support of Geekdom, unveiled several digital kiosks which will help people get where they're going in a very 21st Century way.
"Pick your route on there, it'll plan it out for you, wherever you want to go, and it will download it to your iPhone," he said. "You can take a photograph and download it to your iPhone, you can find many historic sites around the city and tell you how to get to those sites."
The kiosks also include information about city and county facilities and noteworthy place of interest, like San Fernando Cathedral and the Tobin Center.
And, the kiosks provide free WiFi over a 250 foot radius, which will eventually, Wolff hopes, allow for much of downtown to be covered for all visitors, plus locals who want to use it.
In addition to new visitors coming for the World Heritage Missions, 2018 will also see the Men's Final Four, and the city's TriCentennial, as well as when major upgrades to Alamo Plaza will begin.
