Houston-Area 911 Lines Operating, But Are Backed Up

Flooding

The Houston Office of Emergency Management says all 9-1-1 call centers are operating, but that the extremely high volume of calls is backing things up.  The OEM tweeted for callers to be patient and not hang up right away because that could further delay any response if they are in need.  They ask that callers use 9-1-1 only for life-threatening emergencies, such as rescues.  They said not to call about road conditions or closures, power outages or other non-emergency issues because it would delay aid to those in true emergencies.
