'Extremely High Speed' Blamed for Fatal Wreck on Loop 410

A motorist died this morning when he lost control of his car while driving as fast as 100 miles an hour down the access road of Loop 410 on the northeast side, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.

Police say the driver was going eastbound at an 'extremely fast rate of speed' when he lost control and slammed into a fence near the Starcrest exit.

Police say an officer was attempting to pull over the driver for going too fast when he accelerated instead.  Police did not chase the car, but the officer saw the driver lost control and drive into a large metal pole, then slammed into a brick fence and disintegrated.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.  Police say alcohol may have been a factor.
