Copperas Creek and Creekside campgrounds were closed Saturday night for precautionary reasons as a result of a large wildfire that has been burning in Bastrop County southeast of Austin.
Fire crews continue to battle the fire that has scorched 35 acres and is 45 percent contained.
The Royal Pines Fire had forced the Office of Emergency Management to issue a mandatory evacuation for homes east of town, not far from Bastrop State Park, and shutdown the westbound lanes of Highway 71.
However, crews improved lines around the fire Saturday night allowing residents to begin to go back to their homes.
The fire is located near Royal Pines and Thahitian Village.
At one point, 30 homes were threatened by the fire.
