San Antonio based financial services giant USAA todayt announced a major expansion both in San Antonio and in other communities, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.
USAA will move some 1500 local employees, mainly insurance and IT professionals, out of the main headquarters on Fredericksburg Rd. and into two new buildings. USAA will acquire space in the new Vista Corporate Center at I-10 and Loop 1604, and in the new WestRidge II office complex near the Shops at La Cantera.
"For 95 years, we have focused on serving the financial needs of the military community," CEO Scott Parker said. "Our investments today better prepare us to care for our members for years to come."
USAA also announced two major construction projects.
The company will build a second office building in Tampa, which will house 1,000 employees. That will boost USAA's Tampa employee base to nearly 4500 by 2019.
USAA will also build a new 150,000 square foot office building in the Legacy Corporate Center in Plano, north of Dallas, as part of a plan to increase employment there.
In addition, USAA Real Estate Company has purchased the Bank of America Building in dowtnwon San Antonio. The company says it has made no announcement yet on its plans for the building.
"USAA continues to evaluate further expansion of its hometown presence," spokesman Matthew Hartwig said. "We have no additional plans to announce at this time."
